Adding Fantom and Other Tokens to MetaMask
If you're looking for a crypto wallet app and browser extension that can interact with various networks like Ethereum, you might want to check out MetaMask. You can download it from the official website.
Once you have installed the extension, you can also use it with other networks, including Fantom. All you need to do is provide some details to MetaMask, such as a custom RPC URL, network name, and chain ID. Once you've added these details, you can import the token address and start using Fantom tokens.
By learning how to add new blockchains to MetaMask, you can apply this crypto skill to other EVM networks.
Setting up your browser wallet to connect to Fantom is quick and easy with MetaMask, a supported crypto wallet. Although Fantom is not a default network on MetaMask, it can be added in just a few minutes.
Setting up a MetaMask Wallet
To obtain MetaMask, head over to the MetaMask website where it is available for Chrome, iOS, and Android. Ensure that the official website is used and the extension is downloaded legitimately.
- Once the extension is installed, the MetaMask welcome page will appear. Select [Get Started] to begin.
- There are two options for creating a wallet - [Create a Wallet] for a new wallet or [Import Wallet] to import an existing wallet with its seed phrase.
- During certain stages, MetaMask may request the option to collect anonymous usage data. Whether accepted or refused, this will not affect wallet usage.
- Create a secure password for the wallet, which is not the seed phrase. This password simply restricts access to the wallet via the device. If the password is forgotten, the crypto can be retrieved via the seed phrase.
- MetaMask will provide some helpful information on the wallet’s seed phrase after the password is chosen. Read through this carefully if crypto wallets are unfamiliar.
- The seed phrase will be shown, click the lock to view the phrase, and note the words in the correct order. Keep the phrase secure, preferably offline, and never share it. This sequence of words is the wallet's final backup. Click [Next] to proceed.
- Confirm the seed phrase by selecting the words in the correct order. Click [Confirm] when finished.
- The MetaMask wallet is now ready for use. Click [All Done] to access the new wallet.
- MetaMask can be pinned to the Chrome browser by selecting it from the puzzle icon. Initially, MetaMask is only linked to Ethereum. The next step will show how to link MetaMask to Fantom.
Fantom Wallet Configuration
To connect your MetaMask wallet to the Fantom network, follow these steps:
- Open MetaMask and click on the network dropdown menu.
- Click on [Add Network].
- Fill in the following information on the [Add a network] page and click [Save]:
- Network Name: Fantom Opera
- New RPC URL: https://rpc.ftm.tools or https://rpc.fantom.network
- Chain ID: 250
- Symbol: FTM
- Block Explorer URL: https://ftmscan.com/
- You are now connected to the Fantom network.
How to Add Fantom Tokens to MetaMask?
You can manually add Fantom tokens other than FTM to your wallet. Keep in mind that your wallet can still receive tokens that haven’t been imported.
To add a Fantom token to your wallet, follow these steps:
- Go to FTMScan and look for the token contract and details of the token you want to add. If you can’t find it on FTMScan, search for the contract address from the project’s official website or social media channels. Be wary of fake contracts made by scammers.
- Return to MetaMask and select [Import tokens].
- Copy and paste the token’s contract address. MetaMask will automatically fill in the rest of the details. If the information is not filled in, you will need to add them manually. Once done, click [Add Custom Token].
- Click [Import Tokens].
- Your wallet will now show the token you added along with its correct balance.
With Fantom successfully set up on your MetaMask wallet, you can now begin performing transactions, managing your crypto assets, collecting NFTs, and utilizing DeFi DApps. Furthermore, you can easily swap tokens within the MetaMask extension. It's essential to note that MetaMask is not solely restricted to the Ethereum network or Fantom. The wallet can also connect to other compatible networks that run on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), including Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Harmony, Avalanche, and more. With our detailed guide, you are now prepared to add more chains and delve into exploring various opportunities.
